EXETER AIRPORT HUNTER DAY

WEDNESDAY 25TH JULY

Roger Richardson Bunbury reports that the weather was gorgeous, there was a good turnout by the public to look at a line-up of about a dozen Hunters ranging from the prototype through most if not all of the variants, including trainers. Some were flyable but others looked ready for the fire dump.

There was some flying by a couple of Sea Harriers which clearly thrilled the public and in the early afternoon the Red Arrows flew in preparatory to an evening show at Lyme Regis. They gave a brief but impressive display before landing.

Later the Red Arrow pilots had a group photograph taken; as all but one of them wore dark glasses for this, it must be presumed that the remainder are wanted by the police. Only one Hunter (a trainer) got airborne during the day. There were miscellaneous appearances by other aircraft including Hercules, Jaguar, Yaks and a marvellous Czech radial engined cropduster of impressive proportions, with a huge many panelled canopy which could have doubled as a greenhouse.

Six Squadron members turned up - Neville and Gwen Duke in PA 28 G-WFFW who spent a busy day signing copies of Test Pilot. Denis Stanley in a borrowed Piper, Dave Mackay in a Sea Harrier, Leo Baker (who lives there) and of course Roger and Carol Richardson-Bunbury in his Cessna 172 G-BZZD who submitted this report.
