Although this was not a planned official Squadron Fly-In some members attended the Mersey Group FOTMM at Caernarfon which was a splendid day out. Squadron members who attended were Sir Ray Lygo in his Cessna 421 G-RLMC, Arthur Record in his Mistral G-MVSJ and Mike and Mary Smith, Denis and Margaret Woodhams in the helicopter R44 G-POLT. The Mersey Group members gave a very warm welcome and laid on a very interesting visit to the museum where the tour was conducted by Group Captain Phil Langrill. The Fleet Air Arm exhibits were of particular interest. Caernarfon has a very good bar and restaurant where thirty or so FAAOA members enjoyed a splendid lunch featuring Welsh lamb as the main course. After lunch the weather improved and everyone enjoyed an excellent display by Anthony Hodgson in his Spitfire and Sir Ray Lygo gave a low level flypast on his departure to Farnborough. Mike Smith gave several of the Mersey Group members a short trip round the bay in the R44 before departing for a delightful trip back through the Welsh mountains via Lake Vernwy Hotel for tea. |
