LASHENDEN (HEADCORN) FLY-IN

19th SEPTEMBER 1998

The final Fly-In for 1998 was on a bright and sunny day when it was a pleasure to fly along the south coast of England. Lashenden is a very busy grass airfield which is a jumping off point for the Continent and in addition is home to helicopters, gliders and parachutists as well as normal GA flying. The airfield was very efficiently run by the late C.J.Freeman who was one of the 'characters' of the aviation world. He very generously insisted that the Squadron should not pay any landing fees.

Members flying in included the intrepid Arthur Record from Yorkshire, John Eatwell from Boscombe Down, Neville and Gwen Duke from Bournemouth, Leo Baker from Exeter, Ron Dobree-Carey from Henstridge, Michael and Eve Bonham Cozens from Compton Abbas, Michael and Charmian Ryan from Shobdon and Tony and Jill Ashmead from New Milton. Denis and Margaret Woodhams accompanied by Mike and Mary Smith arrived by car on their return from Germany. Denis organised an impromptu lunch at the nearby Bell Inn at Smarden and in addition provided transport to and fro.
