The Squadrons First Annual Dinner

The Old Sarum Flying Club

Saturday 15th November 1997

This well known historic airfield with its naval associations is three miles north of Salisbury. Well known and very popular with PPL's the busy grass airfield has an attractive and friendly clubhouse with a bar and restaurant.

Thirty members sat down to dine - many members being accompanied by their ladies. The Flying Club provided excellent fare and a friendly atmosphere.

There was no formal speaker, but at the end of the meal, Michael Bonham Cozens asked a few members to speak for five minutes on their aviation experiences during the year. Denis Stanley spoke first with great enthusiasm about the conclusion of a three and a half year project building a Minimax and its first flight. Nigel de Candole followed with a graphic and witty account of his forced landing in the summer when on his way to Culdrose. He was happy to say that the re-building of his Jodel was progressing well. Tony Ashmead amused his audience by recounting various anecdotes about when he and his wife Jill built their Streak Shadow in their dining room. Ron Dobree-Carey , the Squadrons autogyro afficionado enthused about this mode of flying. David Morgan who is a pilot with Virgin flying 747's was the home pilot as his aircraft is based at Old Sarum. He talked last about flying his Yak 52 and taking his father up on an aerobatic sortie.

It was a most enjoyable evening and members looked forward to the next one.
